Special Events
This ministry serves dinner twice a year to elderly and disabled residents in the downtown Barton apartments and Lugar Towers. Volunteers are needed to prepare food, serve and cleanup at sites, as well as sharing Christian fellowship with our less fortunate neighbors. To participate, contact Eva Daily at 631-5947.St. Vincent de Paul Conference
The mission of this ministry is to see Jesus’ face in the poor. Members serve neighbors in need of furniture, food and basic living services by providing them with the bridge to get these necessities. This is accomplished by home visits by the Conference members. For homebound neighbors in need of food, volunteers deliver food to them on a weekly basis. In addition, individuals with pick-up trucks are needed to assist recipients with moving larger items from the warehouse. If you would like to join, contact Julie Roe at 822-0775.Computer Lab
The mission of the Computer Lab ministry is to offer a lab for parish members to learn to use computers and software applications. Ideally, we would do this by teaching four sessions of classes per year, with each session involving different software applications. One important goal would be to open the lab for 12-15 hours per week for parishioners to use. This group needs 6-8 members with two leads to coordinate teaching of classes and assign staffing hours. If you are interested in assisting the Computer Lab ministry, contact Fr. Michael.Young Adult Group
The Young Adult Group provides interaction and fellowship for St. Mary’s parishioners’ aged 19-30. We need a committee of 4-6 members who would be interested in planning events, including a book discussion group that is currently in development. Young Adult Group would also help recruit young people to participate in other St. Mary’s ministries such as Disciples in Mission and Mission trips. If you are interested in helping lead the Young Adult Group, contact Fr. Michael.Grotto Tending
The Grotto tenders, working individually or in small teams, are charged with the task of watering the plants, weeding, and conducting general cleanup in the grotto. With eight separate tending teams established, each tender need visit the grotto only once per month from March through November. Each tending session lasts about two hours. Currently, we’re recruiting tenders to maintain the grotto during the growing season. If you’re interested in helping with the grotto, please contact David Hittle at 974-1163 or david_hittle@hotmail.com.Hispanic House of Discernment
In 1999, an Hispanic House of Vocational Discernment, La Casa José María de Yermo y Parres, was established at Saint Mary Parish to promote Hispanic Vocations to the priesthood for service in the Archdiocese. (Note that the Bishop Simon Brute House, at Marian College, exists for English speaking men). This house of discernment provides a structure to support Hispanic men in the discovery of their own vocation. It assists them in obtaining the academic background and spiritual formation that aspirants to the priesthood need to meet the requirements of the seminary and the Archdiocese. In addition, we have vocation dinners, retreats, activities, and visits to seminaries, convents, and religious communities to allow participants the opportunity to talk with seminarians and religious women. Social Studies, Science, etc. in preparation to take the GED. We need help in fundraising/grant writing to support this ministry. If you would be interested in this Ministry, please contact Fr.
